Jane's Addiction among EMA performers
EMA 2003 night
MTV score: Justin 3, Beyoncé 2 gongs

The day arrived for the MTV Europe Music Awards and EMA 2003 went by with a lot of frocks, speeches, presenting, performing and (self) back-slapping. The heartthrob of the moment, Justin Timberlake, won three trophies, Beyoncé won 2, hostess Christina Aguilera [in different states of undress throughout the eve] bagged one, as well as Coldplay, The White Stripes and Sigor Ros. The biggest loser of the night was Robbie Williams who pocketed no gongs despite three mentions.

Ms Aguilera was a confident presenter and she had to be as those dresses had a life of their own. The Edinburgh event saw performances from Beyoncé, Kylie Minogue, The Chemical Brothers with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, Kraftwerk, The White Stripes, Dido, Missy Elliott, Black Eyed Peas - with Just who shouldn’t have rapped, it was more embarrassing than the Madonna’s attempt! There were a lot of presenters, from Shirley Manson of Garbage (the image is too rough, babe!) to Vin Diesel, who was almost funny.

Thus, herewith is the full list of the MTV Europe winners (and other nominees):
