Apple profit fuelled by iPod’s popularity

Apple computer’s iPod music players sales and earnings rocketed in the last quarter. The company’s Chairman, Steve Jobs, proudly announced it to be the best-ever quarter performance.

During the three months leading to 25 June, profit rose $320 (£263m), up from $61 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Sales were up 75% to $3.52 billion, fuelled by a six-fold increase in sales of iPods since the third quarter of 2004.

McCrap’s not over…

If you thought nothing could eclipse Crazy Frog’s ‘Axel F’ in the annoying stakes, you could be in for a nasty shock.

‘Schni-Schna-Schnappi’, or ‘Snappy The Little Crocodile’, has gone straight in at No.1 in seven European countries and is threatening to do the same in Britain. You may have hoped we were going to escape this particular Euro expert, but no - it will be released here on 22 August.

Pundits predict it could top the Crazy Frog single which sold 200,000 copies a week in Britain. The song, which tells the tale of a teething crocodile, is sung by four-year-old Joy Gruttmann. It was posted on the ’Net by her family as a joke - but became a Euro-wide phenomenon.

More than 1 million records have sold worldwide, as well as 500,000 ringtones.

‘Schnappi’, which is sung in German, has even proved popular in English-speaking countries, reaching No.2 in the New Zealand’s singles charts. And, it is not even Summer Down Under!?

The song was written by Gruttmann’s aunt, Iris, as a TV theme. But, she insists Joy, now nine and the youngest person in Europe to reach No.1, came up with the words and tune.
